Eire Og manager Joe Murphy believes that the SFC semi-final win over Palatine was a real test of their character.
The former champions were worthy winners as they shocked the defending champions to take their place in this year's final where they will face Rathvilly in the decider.
Murphy admitted to the Carlow Nationalist that his charges had to dig deep to grind out the win and added that they gave it their all on the field and got the rewards.
"It was a real testament to our character. We asked for character at half-time. We asked for them to leave it out there, to empty the tank and thankfully that is what they did," said Murphy.
"To be honest we are a fairly close group. We don't pay attention to influences outside the group. We train hard, we train diligently and we motivate each other.
"Again when character was tested maybe it was a question of some people felt we had to answer."
