Ryan accepts Rebels weren't at the races

Selector Pat Ryan fears it will be a short-lived summer for Cork if they don't improve on their performance against Tipperary.

A repeat of yesterday's display won't be good enough to beat any team in the All-Ireland SHC qualifiers, according to Ryan.

"The way we played, we'd be struggling to beat anyone," he said in the Irish Sun.

"The lads would be the first to admit that's not good enough for Cork hurling and as a management team, we've to take that on the chin as well.

"At the same time, I don't think there are any players that aren't there that are among the best in Cork.

"We need to get them better and to get ourselves better. Our marquee forwards didn't play to to the standard. Alan Cadogan was probably the only player you could say gave it his all. There are not many positives.

"In modern hurling, work-rate is the key and we didn't work hard enough. We'll go back to the drawing board and see was it something we've been doing wrong, something we need to change."
