Cork U21 goalkeeper Anthony Casey has revealed that Mayo senior counterpart Rob Hennelly has been messaging him words of advice since last Saturday's All-Ireland final defeat.

An error by Casey gifted Mayo their fourth goal in Ennis, where the Connacht champions went on to clinch their first title since 2006 on a 5-7 to 1-14 score-line.

The 20-year-old Rebel custodian has since opened up about some of the abuse he has received after the game on social media and revealed that Hennelly has been in constant contact with him since the weekend.

"He has been messaging me since the game with great advice that is helping me get over it," Casey told Independent.ie, before revealing one piece of advice given by the three-time Connacht SFC champion.

"One piece of advice I got about mistakes that I wish I was given years ago was to forgive and remember. Forgive the mistake, they will always happen, and you remember it in your preparation and learn from it."

Hennelly suffered similar abuse in 2013 following Mayo's narrow defeat to Dublin in the All-Ireland SFC final.
