Kelly in confident mood

October 21, 2016

At the announcement of the GAA's National 1916 commemorative event were Irish Volunteers Adam Cahill and William Northey, Cuchulain Andrew McClay with Kidare & Athy footballer Niall Kelly and Clare & Ballyea hurler Tony Kelly

Ballyea and Clare star Tony Kelly believes that the drawn Clare County SHC final will benefit them more.

Last Sunday, Ballyea had one hand on the cup only for Kelly's county colleague Cathal O'Connell to swing over an equalising point for Clonlara.

The sides meet again on Sunday week and Ballyea who were massive underdogs will be buoyed by their display last weekend.

"We know we are good enough and capable of competing with the big boys in Clare. You can train all you want but a game will bring on players," Kelly told the Clare Champion.

"We knew coming into the game that we had to keep the heads down and keep going. We were determined not to give up.

"If you gave us a replay before Martin O'Leary's goal we would have grabbed it with two hands and ran out the door. That's the way it goes. We will be all the better for this in two weeks' time."
