The picture surrounding Davy Fitzgerald's future as Clare senior hurling manager is set to become clearer today.

The Irish Daily Star reports that the Banner boss is due to return from a break in the USA this morning and a letter of resignation is expected to be tendered later today after some players sought change at a meeting on Monday night.

County Board chairman Joe Cooney revealed that Fitzgerald had previously made his intention to see out the fourth year of his agreed term known.

"I am aware of these reports," the chairman remarked. "Davy spoke to the players before this and was committed to finish his term.

"He is out of the country, there will be a County Board meeting next week.

"We will talk to him when he comes back. We have heard nothing from the players."
