Clare manager Davy Fitzgerald says his team were beaten by a better Galway side in today's All-Ireland SHC quarter-final at Thurles.

The Tribesmen booked a semi-final date with Tipperary by virtue of a 2-17 to 0-17 win over the Banner County at Semple Stadium, where Fitzgerald admitted afterwards to being impressed by the opposition.

"I believe they were the better team," Fitzgerald told RTE Sport. "It's a long time since I saw Galway as fired up.

"But I'm so proud of my guys. They fight unreal. Anyone who gives out about them is talking through their behind. It wasn't our best day."

Speaking on his health complications in mid-week which required him having minor heart surgery, Fitzgerald stated: "It was a tough week. I'd like to thank everyone.

"The most important thing in life is life.

"I would sincerely like to thank everyone. It's great to be able to be here today."
