Clare were found wanting in the 'hunger' and 'intensity' departments last year but not any more, insists Tony Kelly.

Speaking to the Examiner ahead of tomorrow's eagerly anticipated league final against Waterford, the 2013 'Hurler of the Year' offered an explanation as to why the Banner County failed to live up to their high expectations in 2015.

"I think if you look back at our performances last year to this year you can see maybe a far better hunger and intensity to our play.

"That is one thing at the start of the year we sat down and talked about how to up our game. There are a lot of things you can improve on but we have raised that a good percentage.

"When you aren't winning you are always frustrated. The biggest issue was that we weren't doing ourselves justice on the field as a group.

"On a personal level as well, when you aren't winning games and playing well, the frustration builds.

"A lot of people can give out about referees and everything else but players know when they are not playing well and I think that was the biggest thing over the last two years.

"I don't think we have given a great account of ourselves when we have gone out into the biggest games and that is something we are looking to put right this year."
