Clare have been dealt a significant blow with the news that John Conlon is ruled out of Sunday's Division 1 final versus holders Waterford in Thurles.

The Clare People reports that the 27-year-old Clonlara club man will miss the Semple Stadium showpiece after suffering ankle ligament damage in the 4-22 to 2-19 semi-final victory over Kilkenny.

Conlon, who played an instrumental part in the nine-point defeat of the All-Ireland champions, will definitely miss his club's championship opener in three weeks time and may also be out for the Munster semi-final against the Deise on June 5.

The Banner men must also plan without two other 2013 All-Ireland winners Conor Ryan and David McInerney this weekend.
