Clare's HL Division 1B hopes have suffered a set-back with the news that former Hurler of the Year Tony Kelly is to be sidelined for eight weeks.

An ankle injury sustained in training last week means that Davy Fitzgerald and his selectors will have to plan without the services of the 22-year-old for the immediate future.

A Clare spokesman explained to The42.ie: "Tony will be out for up to 8 weeks due an ankle ligament picked up in training last week.

"A scan confirmed the injury yesterday."

The Banner County will host Offaly in round one on Sunday, February 14.
