Wolfe Tones (Clare) 1-18
Newcestown (Cork) 2-13

Clare champions Wolfe Tones made history this afternoon by edging Newcestown of Cork in the Munster club intermediate championship final at Mallow.

James Carrig's side were put on the path to victory thanks to Gary O'Connell's first-half goal, which helped the Shannon men take in a 1-11 to 0-8 lead at the break.

Aaron Shanagher's expert free-taking was salient for the winners too, as they helped to run up a 1-17 to 0-13 lead before the Rebel County champions  struck two late goals which left them two points short in the end.

The victory sees Wolfe Tones become the first club in Munster to have won both senior and intermediate provincial club hurling titles.

Carrig's men now march on to the All-Ireland semi-final at the end of January, when they will face the Leinster champions - either Bennetsbridge of Kilkenny or Meath's Kiltale whom play next weekend at Nowlan Park.
