The dreaded red card

A melee during half time of a Clare senior football championship match looks set to be investigated by the county board's CCC.

Ennistymon and Eire Og players, mentors and spectators became embroiled in a row as the teams made their way to the dressingrooms at half time of their clash at Hennessy Park last weekend.

The unsavoury scenes lasted up to five minutes before order was restored as officials from both sides tried to restore calm.

Ironically, the first half of the game had passed off without incident and indeed the second half was played in a sporting manner as Ennistymon caused something of a shock by recording a 3-06 to 0-13 victory.

The county board are believed to be awaiting referee Jim Hickey's report before deciding what course of action to take, but both clubs could be hit with fines and suspensions.
