Incredibly, Limerick centre back Barry O'Connell is bidding for his second Munster U21 HC medal tonight.

Even though tonight's opponents Clare have won the last three provincial titles at this level and a number of their players are gunning for second and third titles, it's quite remarkable that one of the Treaty County stars has also tasted success in this competition before.

O'Connell, who is vice-captain, came on as a substitute in 2011 when Limerick defeated Cork in an epic final after extra time. The Kildimo-Pallaskenry clubman was a 17-year-old student as Ardscoil Ris at the time.

Tonight will be his second Munster final this year: he also togged out against Cork in the intermediate hurling decider.
