Clare legend criticises County Board

All-Ireland winning Clare full back Brian Lohan has slammed the county board's decision not to discuss Davy Fitzgerald's role with club delegates.

Last week, Clare GAA chairman Michael McDonagh stated that there would be no debate on the future of Fitzgerald as manager and that he has been reinstated for another year.

McDonagh has had to defend his and the board's decision as some delegates claim that the county board has become a 'dictatorship'.

And Lohan certainly agrees with the point of view that an open discussion should have been held with the clubs over the matter.

Speaking to the Clare champion, Lohan said: "What I thought should have happened was the clubs should have been given an opportunity to air their views on it.

"I think the clubs deserve the opportunity to debate. I think the motive was to get Davy in for another year but the clubs would probably have supported that anyway.

"Maybe there would have been one or two dissenting voices but that's not a bad way to have it."
