Clare have enlisted the services of PR guru Mark Dunphy to help with media interactions.

Dunphy has been advising the Clare county board and hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald in a bid to help with their image. The move comes after the Banner received some negative press over how Davy O'Halloran's departure from the panel was handled in March. Davy Fitzgerald also came in for criticism following his awkward interview with RTE's Clare McNamara after last month's Munster SHC exit at the hands of Limerick.

Dunphy, who has been promoting the Clare hurlers' Charity Crossbar Challenge, confirmed to the Irish Independent that he is carrying out his duties on a "voluntary basis".

"Basically I was contacted by the chairman (Michael McDonagh), it's a matter for them as to why they brought me in," he said.

"I'm a Clare GAA fan. I wanted to show how it's done."
