"We are 100% certain that we do things by the book"

Davy Fitzgerald has denied claims that he 'humiliated' members of his Clare panel.

Davy O'Halloran and fellow 2013 All-Ireland medalist Nicky O'Connell quit the panel this week after they were asked to train alone in a corner of a pitch for a breach in discipline.

Eire Og clubman O'Halloran - who could now link up with the Clare footballers - told The Irish Times than neither he nor O'Connell were prepared to accept such draconian measures, which also saw them denied access to the team's dressing-rooms and being not allowed to be part of match-day squads.

After yesterday's badly-needed 2-22 to 2-20 Division 1A win over Dublin, Davy responded: "I didn't drop the two, they left the panel and all I am going to say on this matter is myself and the management are very happy that we treated everyone and will treat everyone the same way as we did.

"They are not bad lads so they're not, but we are 100% certain that we do things by the book and there is a set of rules there and that is the way it is and they were implemented," he outlined to RTE.

"That's all it was and I will not be saying one other word apart from that."

When it was put to him that O'Halloran said he was 'humiliated', the Banner boss replied: "It is (strong words), but it's untrue. I am not going into it. That's it, I have told you all I am going to.

"All I am going to tell you is that there is no more coming whether you like it or you don't."

The former All-Ireland winning goalkeeper concluded with a rejection of O'Halloran's claim that a prominent member of the team had escaped censure for drinking despite a member of management being aware of.

"I am 110% certain of that, 110% certain of that. And after this comment I will not be bringing it up again."
