FL3: Tipp lower the Banner

March 07, 2015

Tipperary's Conor Sweeney

Tipperary 2-11
Clare 1-8

Goals from Conor Sweeney and Philip Austin proved decisive as Tipperary secured their second win in Division 3 of the Allianz Football League at Clare's expense before 437 spectators at Semple Stadium.

Sweeney netted in the 11th minute as Peter Creedon's side eased into a 1-5 to 0-1 lead after 27 minutes. However, Clare - who were seeking to keep their promotion push alive - grabbed the last three points of the first half to trail by 0-4 to 1-5 at the interval.

The home side upped the ante again after the restart as five unanswered points from Barry Grogan, Stephen O'Brien and Austin pushed them eight clear, 1-10 to 0-5.

A Shane Brennan goal in the 59th minute brought the Banner back into it, only for Austin to reply with a similar score three minutes from the end. Clare were awarded a late penalty, but it was saved by goalkeeper Evan Comerford as Tipp moved away from the relegation zone.
