The bragging rights belong to Brian Lohan after UL got the better of his All-Ireland winning Clare team-mate Davy Fitzgerald's LIT in today's second Fitzgibbon Cup semi-final.

The Lohan-coached University of Limerick proved too strong for LIT with two second half goals sending them on the road to a final showdown against holders Waterford IT tomorrow evening.

UL were quick out of the traps and raced into a 0-5 to 0-2 lead but Lohan's side were left reeling when Willie Ryan found the back of their net in the 10th minute.

A David Reidy brace opened up a two-point gap for LIT but UL fought back to go in at the break with a one-point advantage - 0-10 to 1-6 - thanks to a Tommy Heffernan point on the stroke of half-time.

Jason Forde's goal two minutes after the resumption gave them a five-point cushion but they suffered a set-back when Jack Browne was sent off in the 41st minute and, entering the final quarter, they were 1-14 to 1-10 to the good on the scoreboard.

A Paul Killeen point left three points between the sides with 10 minutes to go but, try as they might, LIT were unable to bridge the gap.

Substitute Stephen Bennett applied the gloss to UL's victory when raising their second green flag in the 58th minute while LIT also finished with 14 men after Niall O'Connor was sent for an early shower.
