Anthony Daly says his former Dublin charges will travel to Nowlan Park for round 2 of Division 1A next Sunday 'full of optimism' following their eye-catching display against Tipperary at Parnell Park today.

Ger Cunningham's side banked the two points with a 2-20 to 0-14 victory over the Premier County and, speaking on RTE Radio 1, Daly, who guided the metropolitans to Leinster glory in 2013, said: "I'm thrilled for Ger, I thought it was a great appointment.

"I've spoken to one or two players as well, I would have made good relationships with the players over the six years and they've been very positive.

"I haven't heard a negative word about the set-up and how things are being done. That's what was needed and they've driven on.

"I think it's a great start for Ger and the lads and they'll be going to Kilkenny now full of optimism."

The two-time All-Ireland winning Clare captain was in Pearse Stadium to witness his native county lose out by a point to Galway, 1-17 to 2-15, at the end of a drama-packed finish.

"It wasn't a classic but we certainly got a great last 15 minutes. One of those games that nobody seemed to really, it's too strong to say wanted to win but maybe were afraid to lose and both teams sitting very deep and it didn't make for lovely viewing.

"But then, a couple of breaks came and Galway had to chase the game when they went three down. Once they got the goal it sort of flickered into life and we had great passages of play. Brian Gavin let it go to a fair extent.

"A lot of Clare supporters were adamant that the ball was not picked off the ground by Jack Browne, that the ball was in flight.

"Brian Gavin called it and Jason Flynn, to be fair to him it wasn't an easy free right on the touchline here in Salthill with a cross wind but he nailed it.

"There was a bit of controversy with the puck-out then. We got a spectacular finish and great delight for the Galway fans but disappointment for the Clare fans.

"They have a huge journey home and it will be a painful enough one that they didn't get something from the game."
