Tyrone will play an unbelievable six competitive matches during the month of January.

The statistic is all the more amazing when one considers that the Red Hands didn't kick a ball throughout the months of August, September, October, November and December.

Their championship campaign ended with defeat to Armagh in a second-round Qualifier on July 13th and Mickey Harte's men didn't tog out again until their Dr McKenna Cup opener against Armagh at the Athletic Grounds on Sunday, January 4th.

St Mary's were despatched the following Sunday, followed by a victory over Antrim last Sunday. The O'Neill men saw off Armagh in their McKenna Cup semi-final last night and are scheduled to meet Cavan in the final on Saturday night.

The following Saturday, January 31st, they will play their sixth competitive match of the month when opening their national football league Division One campaign at home to Monaghan.

Seems insane considering that Tyrone only played THREE competitive games in total during the preceding seven months, June-December, 2014. Their two Ulster preliminary-round matches against Down were played in May; then came a defeat to Monaghan, victory over Louth and that season-ending loss to Armagh in mid-July.
