McDonagh stands up for referees

October 24, 2014

Clare chairman Michael McDonagh has staunchly defended the county's referees.

At the most recent meeting of the county board, debate raged over the standard of referees within Clare, but McDonagh was adamant that the referees currently officiating at matches were up to standard.

"We're very lucky to have the calibre of people in this county who are refereeing at the present time. Refereeing is a thankless job," the Clare Champion reports McDonagh as saying.

"We have decent honourable men who go out weekend after weekend, leaving their families, to referee our games. Without these people, we wouldn't have any games."
