Nine more county titles up for grabs

Barring draws, nine more county titles will be handed out this afternoon.

There are six SHC finals taking place, the most high-profile of which are in Clare and Waterford. Former Clare captain Pat Vaughan will be available for Crusheen after having his red card rescinded in midweek for the televised clash with Cratloe, who are aiming to complete the first leg of a SHC and SFC double.

The TG4 cameras will also be in Walsh Park for the clash of city rivals Ballygunner and Mount Sion, with the Gunners' desperate to make amends for their late collapse at the hands of Passage in last year's final. Mount Sion's Tony Browne is attempting to win another county medal at the age of 41.

In football, the finals in Down and Monaghan will grab most of the attention. Newly-appointed Down manager Jim McCorry is hoping to sign off as Kilcoo boss with a third O'Hare Cup on the trot at the expense of Burren, while Scotstown are favourites to retain their Monaghan SFC crown against the Conor McManus-captained Clontibret. Both games are a repeat of last year's finals.

There will be some celebrations in the tiny north Longford hamlet of Mullinalaghta if the local St. Columba's club can upset Killoe in the Longford SFC final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, and claim a first Connolly Cup since 1950.
