Brennan says 'header' wasn't intended

Clare full forward Shane Brennan has laughed off suggestions that his 'headed' assist for Rory Donnelly's goal against Carlow last Sunday was inspired by the World Cup.

Instead of fisting the ball, the Clondegad clubman used his head to find Donnelly who finished to the net seven minutes before half-time to put the Banner on the road to an emphatic 4-26 to 2-13 victory.

"I've been looking at a lot of the World Cup!" he is quoted in the Clare Champion.

"No, honestly I don't know what happened there. I put up the hands, it hit off the head and it fell for Rory. It was a bit of luck.
"(Clare wing back) Jamie Malone said to me at half-time that you earn your luck. I think I'll be earning that one for a long time yet."
