Newmarket-on-Fergus celebrate. INPHO
Newmarket-on-Fergus and Crusheen both chalked up their second straight victories in the Clare SHC at Cusack Park yesterday.
Trailing at half-time, 2012 champions Newmarket scored three second half goals to ease to a 3-16 to 0-8 victory over Tubber.
In the second part of the double-header, Crusheen needed a late point from Cathal Dillon to edge out Kilmaley on a 1-15 to 1-14 scoreline. Kilmaley led by 0-10 to 0-6 at the break, but Crusheen got back into it with a goal from Conor O'Donnell immediately after the restart and they went on to secure back-to-back wins, having beaten holders Sixmilebridge in the first round.
This afternoon, Clonlara and Inagh-Kilnamona meet in Sixmilebridge, while Shannon will host the clash of Tulla and Clarecastle.
The games were only given the green light to take place on Tuesday night after a request by Clare senior hurling management to have them postponed was turned down.
