Cavans exciting young dual football star
06 February 2008
Cian Mackey who has been prominent for his club Castlerahan and for Cavan senior and U-21 and minor teams in recent seasons, has made a name for himself with Armagh City soccer club. He helped his side to a 3-0 victory over Limavaddy Utd. in the Carnegie Premier League at the Showgrounds, Limavaddy on Friday 1st February.
Mackey, who scored the third goal fifteen minutes from the end, left Monaghan United at the end of last season after a spell with the First Division club. He joined the Armagh side during last months transfer window and has settled down in his new surroundings at Holm Park.
Two months ago, Mackey played against Linfield and set up his sides only goal in a 2-1 defeat in Windsor Park.
And this playing activity didnt end for the week-end, as the red-haired Mackey turned out at full-forward for the Cavan U-21 county footballers in their North-West League clash with Sligo in Rory OMoore Park, Belturbet which incidentally ended in a draw 0-11 to 1-8 with the Castlerahan clubman getting on the scoreboard with a point.
Mackey is highly rated in GAA circles in the Breffni county, and has already represented his county at all grades from U-16 right up to senior ranks. Over the next few months he will be a busy man fulfilling engagement for club and county on the GAA scene, and also his soccer commitments with Armagh City.
