Cavan minor boss John Brady says his team are coming up against a "fairly strong" outfit in Monaghan this weekend.

Brady's charges enter the Ulster championship race at the quarter-final on Sunday evening they welcome their Farney counterparts to Kingspan Breffni Park, with their opponents having already ousted Fermanagh comfortably in the preliminary round.

"We know a bit about them. We rate them highly, before the season started people in Monaghan were talking about this team to maybe win an Ulster title, never mind beat us in the first round," Brady told The Anglo-Celt this week.

"They've won the last three Buncrana Cups, which is an Ulster U16 competition, so they will be fairly strong as far as we can gauge that."

On his own group, the Ramor man added that a couple of members from the U17 side which have reached next month's Ulster final could be involved this weekend: "There's a pep in their step. They're a fairly tight group as well. We have to name a panel of 24 so there will be eight or nine lads missing out on match day and there is a lot of competition for places there, not only on the starting team but on the panel as well.

"Obviously we haven't named the team but there are a few of the U17s on the panel and at the minute you'd expect a few of them to be on at some stage."

Throw-in at Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday is at 7pm.
