An Riocht Camogie Academy launch

June 03, 2016

An Riocht Camogie Academy was officially launched at Dunavil on Wednesday past bringing to fruition an important development initiative for the promotion of Camogie in the Club.

These girls are taking the first steps on what we all hope will be a long and successful Camogie career and involvement with the Club.

Weekly practice all year round will focus in a fun way on the development of technical skills and will later also incorporate lifestyle, diet and nutritional advice for young camogie players.

It is envisaged that the Academy will assist in the development of underage players with a view to representing the Club at Senior level in later years. Very few present at the launch remember a time when An Riocht were Ulster Camogie Champions and our aim is to restore An Riocht Camogie to that level.

To receive a Subway An Riocht Camogie Academy training jersey, girls must have attended a minimum of six practices or blitzes so don't worry if you have not hit that figure yet, keep coming each week and you will soon reach it.

We acknowledge Subway Kilkeel for their generous sponsorship of Academy training jerseys, and EM Sheehan Chartered Accountants and CCL Services Ltd. who have sponsored match jerseys for U10 and U12 teams, and we ask all our members to support those who support us.

Thanks are also due to the growing band of coaches without whom it would not be possible to implement this programme of activity; coach training began before Christmas and has continued on a regular basis, with the first of five 'Mum & Me' coaching sessions taking place last Wednesday and we encourage parents to play a part in their children's development by attending the 'Mum & Me' programme this Wednesday 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
