Six-time All-Ireland winning Cork camogie goalkeeper Aoife Murray says she will never forget her one and only training session under Davy Fitzgerald.

Speaking at a seminar on leaders in women's sports in UCC on Monday night, Murray recalled the huge intensity that Fitzgerald brought to a Sunday morning session which she attended at the Clare manager's native Sixmilebridge.

"He's a very different trainer to Ger Cunningham, who's very calm, quiet and patient. Davy is there shouting the head off you," said the six-time All Star.

"I promised myself I'd never go back because I couldn't put myself through that training session again. It is one hundred percent all go."

The Cloughduv woman accepted that she learned more about the physical aspect of the game from Fitzgerald, along with how to approach an oncoming forward, and she also acknowledged that ex-goalkeepers are having a bigger impact on the development of new shot-stoppers than in past times.

"Thankfully we're at the stage now where ex-goalkeepers are training current goalkeepers," said Murray.

"I've had Declan Powell in Dublin, Teddy Donovan on the Cork side. I've been up to Davy Fitz and Gerard Cunningham and from all these people you get to really figure out the position.

"You only figure out the position of a goalkeeper if you've played there."
