Ward and Murphy take NUIG reins

Galway's two-time All-Ireland winning camogie manager Tony Ward will take charge of the NUIG hurlers in next year's Fitzgibbon Cup.

Ward, who managed the Galway camogs to a National League title and an All-Ireland final appearance this year, will be assisted by former Galway senior and minor hurling supremo Mattie Murphy. Murphy, who has overseen a remarkable six All-Ireland minor hurling title wins, previously managed NUIG when they lost the 2007 final to LIT by 2-15 to 0-13 in Carlow. 

The third member of the management team is former Galway star Tony Og Regan, who wore the NUIG colours in the Fitzgibbon Cup for four years. Head of coaching will be 2001 All Star centre back Liam Hodgins, who was also involved with the county camogie set-up this year. 

NUIG hurling club chairman Gordon Joyce said: "The players are looking forward to working together with Tony and his backroom team for the betterment of NUI Galway hurling club at senior, intermediate and fresher level."
