Joe Quaid's resignation as Limerick camogie boss has fuelled speculation that Joe Quaid is poised to become Offaly's new hurling manager.

The former Limerick goalkeeper has decided not to seek reappointment as the county's camogie manager. During his three years in charge, Quaid transformed the team's fortunes, with the highlight coming in 2014 when they were crowned All-Ireland intermediate champions.

Ex-Tipperary All-Ireland winning manager Liam Sheedy is spearheading the search for Brian Whelahan's successor in the Faithful County, and Quaid is among the names to be linked with the vacancy. Kilcormac/Killoughey manager Danny Owens has expressed his interest in the post.

A statement from Quaid announcing his departure as Limerick camogie manager read: "It's with sadness that I am informing you that I won't be seeking re-election as Limerick senior camogie manager for 2016.

"I would like to thank all members of the board over the last three years for their help and support. It has been a fantastic journey and I'd like to think that Limerick camogie is in a far better place now than when I took over the role. To all the clubs and supporters within the county I'd like to say a big thank you. Without the support of the clubs the successes we achieved would not have been possible.

"I'd also like to thank all the sponsors who gave their money and facilities and support as without this the setup could and would not have been as professional. Finally the last thank you goes to the members of my management teams and their families for their support. Without the excellent dynamic created by this amazing group of people Limerick Camogie wouldn't be in the healthy state it is now.

"And to the girls, it has been a privilege to manage such a bunch of incredible human beings. They were a pleasure to work with and their commitment and dedication is the benchmark which Limerick Camogie should never fall below again."
