Clontibret Camogie News

April 21, 2015

All roads lead to Inniskeen on Saturday afternoon at 12.30, when Monaghan county minors take on Cavan in the Division 3 National League Final, in the first of 3 matches at this venue. This match is of huge importance to 11 of our club members who are on the panel, and particularly to Shauna McKeever who will captain the team.
Monaghan had a comfortable win over Cavan a few weeks ago in this competition, but the match coincided with Monaghan/Cavan ladies minor football, and while Monaghan will have Sinéad Mohan available for selection for the final, Cavan have the addition of 3 dual players this time round which will strengthen them immeasurably, especially in attack. The Monaghan panel have worked hard in the past number of weeks under Paul Monaghan (trainer) and no stone has been left unturned in the quest for a first National League title for Monaghan.
Support for the team will be critical on Saturday and I would urge all our members, young and old, to get behind the girls on Saturday morning in this critical clash - and for a feast of camogie in Inniskeen. Indeed, even the Co Council 'Spring Clean/Litter-pick', scheduled for Saturday from 10am - 12pm along the by-pass, has been postponed until May 9 to allow Clontibret folk support their sporting heroes.
Representing Clontibret on the Monaghan panel on Saturday will be: Shauna McKeever(Capt), Niamh Kieran, Sioneen Morgan, Ríoghnach Duffy, Sorcha McDonald, Cliona McDonald, Chloe McGuigan, Éimear McKenna, Sinéad Mohan, Emily Madden and Melinda McCague. We wish them every good wish and hopefully they will come away with the spoils. Monaghan abú!!
Following the Monaghan v Cavan match, Antrim take on Laois, at 2.15, in the Minor B Shield final while at 4.00pm Derry take on Meath in the Minor B championship final. So a feast of camogie in Inniskeen on Saturday
In relation to club fixtures, our U-16 s putting an excellent performance on Wednesday last only to be narrowly defeated by Castleblayney in the Division 2 Armagh League. This was a big step-up for some of our younger players, like Kirsty Morgan-O Reilly and Chloe Markey but they acquitted themselves admirably! On Tuesday May 5th this team will host Port Mór in Clontibret.
Despite having quite an extensive panel, we once again had to concede an U-14 League match due to the poor response to the match v Mullaghabawn. However, the girls who were eager to play, travelled to Mullaghabawn and enjoyed a challenge match against the hosts and showed off their skill and fitness levels. Our next U-14 match is on Tues April 28 when we host Killeavy. I would appeal to parents to ensure their daughters are available for this fixture.
Our seniors host Aghagallon on Wednesday next, April 29. Matches between our 2 clubs have always been closely fought so I would appeal to as many seniors as possible to make themselves available for this encounter.
With the deadline fast approaching for the commencement of 'Last One Standing' members are asked to ensure they have at least 10 participants, and their contact details, when the competition is launched in the coming weeks. A meeting to finalise details of this exciting fund-raiser will be held in the coming week.
Congratulations to Michaela McGinn on her considerable success as a navigator for Damian McGauran in the 2015 Irish Forestry Rally Championship, which resulted in them finishing 12th overall and 2nd in Class 13. A woman of many talents!!
The Club extends its deepest sympathy to Enda and the Galligan family on the recent death of Enda's mother.
Finally our thoughts, good wishes and prayers continue for Mary who has returned to St James's for continuing treatment. Happily Mary has been allowed out for short drives and, according to all who have visited her, looks amazing and is in great form despite her gruelling treatment. Well done Mary! As Marie would say 'You're a legend!'
