The Limerick junior squad that took on Kerry.

Kerry edge Martinstown thriller

Limerick's Junior Camogie side lost a thrilling Munster semi-final to Kerry after extra time under lights in Martinstown last Friday. Played in difficult weather conditions Limerick lead for much of the game but a late goal tied the game 3-7 to 2-10 and Kerry went on to prevail in extra time by 1-2 to 0-3.

Kerry opened the scoring but Limerick quickly replied with a point from Kate Mulqueen. The game remain tight thoughout the opening half with Limerick building a nrrow two point lead through points from Caitrín de Bhál, Mairéad Clancy and Clíona Lane. However a goal for Limerick scored by Kate Mulqueen just before the break sent them in ahead by 1-7 to 0-5.

Kerry were expected to respond with the wind at their backs in the second half but it was Limerick who struck first with goals from Mairéad O'Connell and Kate Mulqueen to open a 3-7 to 0-7 lead.

But the Kerry response came and they closed the gap to a single goal going into the final minutes and equalised at the death to force the game into extra time.

The strong winds that prevailed all during the match were now accompanied by heavy rain. Kerry opened the scoring with a goal followed by two points that forced Limerick to chase the game. Limerick responded and three points from Caitrín de Bhál closed the gap but it was not enough and it is Kerry that go forward to face Cork in the Munster Junior final.

Eileen Carmody Blitz
Limerick's U14 B team won the B Cup in the Eileen Carmody Inter-county Camogie Blitz in Rathkeale. They defeated Laois by 1-1 to 0-2 in the final breaking Cork's dominance on the day as the Leesiders won the A Cup, the A Plate and the C Cup.
On a very enjoyable day for Camogie over 400 girls representing eight counties participated in matches in Rathkeale and Newcastle West displaying a very high standard of skill and sportsmanship.
