Another Whelahan takes charge of Offaly

Former greats Donal Franks and Barry Whelehan celebrate another Birr success

Offaly's senior hurling and camogie teams will be managed by two members of the famous Whelahan clan in 2015.

Brian was recently ratified as hurling manager for a second year and last night his younger brother Barry was appointed as the Faithful County's new camogie supremo in succession to Aidan Franks, who stepped down a few weeks ago after two years at the helm.

Barry takes up his new role after leading Birr to their first county senior camogie title in October at the expense of red-hot favourites Shinrone.

When Offaly last won the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 1998, Brian, Barry and another sibling, Simon, were all part of the panel.
