October 06, 2014

Kilmessan's Aileen Donnelly

Leinster junior club camogie quarter final  2014 played @ Kilmessan Sat 4th Oct

Half time score: Kilmessan 1-12 Lough Lene Gaels (Westmeath) 3-2
Full time score: Kilmessan 2-21 Lough Lene Gaels 3-4

Despite the concession of three goals in the opening half, Kilmessan ran out comfortable winners in their opening match of the Leinster campaign.
The Meath champions got off to a great start with Frances Lynch at midfield starting the day as she meant to go on high fielding brilliantly and delivering quality ball to her forward line who registered three points from play before LLG responded (Aileen Donnelly, Megan Thynne and Megan Ni Choileain with the scores). LLG against the run of play scored two soft goals, high balls lofted into the Kilmessan square that weren't dealt with sufficiently, however Kilmessan didn't panic and down the opposite end hit back with a goal of their own from the excellent Katie Ni Choileain who rounded her defender easily and stuck it in the bottom right corner after a superb pass from Tracy King. The Kilmessan attack with their strong running kept drawing fouls from the LLG defence which Donnelly easily converted. Kilmessan went in with a half time lead of four points as LLG grabbed another goal just before the break.
Kilmessan after some strong words at half time dominated the second half and used their bench well with Laura Irwin and Sarah Ross introduced to give some more physical presence to the attack each bagging a point. Lynch continued to dominate the midfield area turning in an undisputed player of the match performance however she was ably supported by centre back Ailbhe Lynch and Megan Thynne and Katie Ni Choileain in the full forward line.
