Spectators and armchair viewers of today's All-Ireland camogie finals will have noticed that players from all six competing teams sported their names on the back of their jerseys.

While the approach is nothing new in camogie, it is the first time that all of the All-Ireland finalists in the senior, intermediate and junior grade have carried their names on their jerseys.

It is another example of the willingness of both the Camogie Association and, indeed, their Ladies Gaelic Football Association counterparts - who have been using the countdown clock for years - to try different ideas and embrace change.

Camogie Association president Aileen Lawlor said: "The idea is that helmets obviously don't reveal the player's identity and that is particularly important when we are striving to promote the game and the players.

"Camogie finals are our best attended games each year so adding the surname to the jersey will make it easier for the supporters in the stands and the viewers on TV.

"An All-Ireland jersey is a treasured memento for players and personalising it will add to that even more."
