Stunning second half performance earn St. Anne's a place in 9 A-Side Senior League Final
St. Anne's V Mattock Friday 20th June 2014 in Collon
St. Anne's 4-5
Mattock 0-6

Reigning champions St. Anne's took on Mattock in the first of the two play offs to secure a spot in the final in the 2014 9 A-Side Senior League Final. Mattock who beat St. Anne's in the previous round rightly felt that they had a good chance of winning this match and indeed they started the match at a blistering pace. However it was St. Anne's Ailbhe Rogers who powered through a few players to score the first point of the game. Niamh McKeon soon replied with a point to level matters. Rogers popped up again and sent a ball in to full forward Siobhan Dawdry who registered the first goal of the evening. Collon replied quickly with a well taken point from Jane McKeon. The Collon girls stepped up a few gears and launched a barrage of attacks at the Togher defence but were made to work hard for their scores and were it not for the heroics of the Togher keeper Leanne Sharkey St. Anne's could have been well and truly out of the match at half time. Mattock added three points from the McKeon sisters before the interval and a Catriona Cantwell point left the side's level at half time.

Mattock didn't let up in the second half either with a well taken point from Mairéad Lynch within seconds of the restart but it was to be their final score of the match. At the opposite end Siobhan Dawdry won a long puck out from Catriona Cantwell and levelled the match for the third time. From here it was end to end stuff with neither team giving an inch. Mattock's forwards made continuous runs towards the Togher goal but reached a stone wall defence of Linda Woods, Catriona Cantwell and Pamela Smyth who totally controlled proceedings in their area and mopped up everything in sight. The turning point in the game could well have been the introduction of veteran star Connie Crehan who was pulled from the bench into the full forward position. Within minutes Crehan steadied the ship and rattled the back of the Collon net. Dawdry who was now playing at half forward slotted over another two points to give St. Anne's a five point advantage. But Mattock weren't going down with a fight but despite their resilience goals each from Catriona Cantwell and Ailbhe Rogers ended the contest for them. St. Anne's ran out winners by eleven points but the score was somewhat unfair to a gallant Collon side. Others to do well for St. Anne's apart from the above Lorraine Young, Gillian Sharkey and Nikita Kelly. Collon players who deserve a mention apart from above Julie Sherlock, Eimear Grimes and Sinead McKenna.
