Tara camogie club notes

Fullen Gaels of Manchester and Tara's of London both travelled to Pairc na hEireann on Sunday morning to play the third round of the Senior Camogie league. The London side proved victorious in the very hot conditions winning by 6-8 to 1-6.

Fullen Gaels were first on the score board with their centre forward Aine Brislane slotting over a tidy point with only 1 minute gone. Tara's responded quickly with a great goal from wing forward Anna Nyhan where she lobbed the keeper to stick it in the top right hand Corner. Tara's continued with 2 points by wing back Lucy hawks and mid fielder Caroline Kelly. With Tara's 5 points up the Fullen Gaels girls worked the ball down the field and the tara defence was caught out which resulted in a goal by full forward Claire Commane.

From the puck out the ball was beautifully worked up the field by the Londoners which resulted in Tara full Denise Gilligan hammering home a goal past the Fullen Gaels goalie. The Manchester side responded quickly with 2 points from Claire Commane and Edel Barrett to make it 2 points in the difference in favour of the girls in blue with 5 minutes left in the second half. A goal from Eilish o Neil and a point from a Caroline Kelly free saw the Tara's winning at half time on a score line of 1-3 to 3-3.

Tara's got off to a flying start to the second half with a goal and a point in the first 5 minutes by mid fielder Caroline Kelly. With a 9 point lead Tara's kept the scoring coming with a great point from corner forward Mary Fenton. With the ball in the Fullen Gaels attack, a foul on Gaels full forward Claire Commare resulted in a point from a free from Sarah-Ann Smyth. Another 2 points for the Londoners by Mary Fenton and wing back Lucy hawks saw Tara's well in the lead with ten minutes to go with a score line of 1 4 to 4 7.

Despite some excellent defending from Lucy hawks, the Manchester side managed to get past the Tara's to up another point by Stephanie Mceniry. With Tara's Sinead Darcy working the ball up the field into the hands of Denise Gilligan she effortlessly found the back of the net. Tara's weren't done yet with wing forward Anna Nyhan finding the back of the net in the 56th minute. Fullen Gaels never gave up hope and came down the field to score a point by which was soon replicated by Denise Gilligan of Tara's to score the last pint of the game. This left the final score 1-6 to 6-8 in favour of the Tara girls! It was a tough game in hot conditions and it will sure to be a good battle when both teams meet again in the championship at the start of August.

Tara juniors were also out this week, Tara's and Brother Pearses met last Thursday evening in Greenford for the 4th round of the Junior Camogie Championship. Tara were the stronger side beating Brother Pearses 3-7 to 1-4. It was a tough game with both sides battling to the last. The main scores for Tara's were Anna Nyhan, Sheila Fernandez and Eilish o Neill with some great defending from Sarah Quinn and Joni Traynor. This win puts the Tara girls in second place of the championship as it stands.
