The Waterford Under 14 Camogie Panel - Munster B Blitz Champions.
U14 Munster and Clare Blitzes
Waterford Camogie U14 Development Squad travelled to Ennis on the Monday of the May Bank Holiday to participate in both the Munster and Clare Blitzes. This panel of players were eager to participate in this competition as this was the first competitive outing of the 2013 season.
With the first match scheduled to begin at 10:30 it meant an early departure from Waterford. Despite this early start and humid conditions, the girls got straight into their stride with a win over Limerick B on a scoreline of 1:07 to 0:00. After an hour's break, they then defeated a Cork selection by 2:07 to 1:01 and rapidly followed that up with a win over Clare B by 3:01 to 0:01.
This brought Waterford face to face with the only other unbeaten team in their group which was Tipperary B. In a titanic struggle, Waterford squeezed through by the tightest of margins by 0:05 to 1:01, with a last gasp long distance point by Kaiesha Tobin. This win crowned Waterford as Munster B Blitz champions which the skill and dedication of this squad of players truly deserved.
As winners of the Munster 'B' Blitz, the team now were through to the final of the Clare Blitz final which would be against Offaly.
In a tight, intense match, the Midlanders, assisted by a strong breeze, proved more clinical and came through to win by 1:03 to 1:00. Whilst it was a disappointing end to the day, the team performed impressively through the entire competition despite missing a number of panel members.
With little preparation undertaken as of yet, the Mentors are confident that as the season progresses and training steps up, further success will follow for this talented squad. The panel on the day was as follows:
Aisling Baumann (Dungarvan), Chloe Beecher (Tallow), Margaret Ann Boylan (Portlaw), Anne Corcoran (Gaultier), Sinead Cunningham (Gaultier), Chloe Dempsey (De La Salle), Caoimhe Drohan (De La Salle), Sibeal Duggan (Dungarvan), Caoimhe Dwyer (Brickey Rangers), Saoirse English (Tramore),Emma Fitzgerald (De La Salle), Aoife Fleming (St Mollerans), Clara Griffin (Tramore), Taylor Healy (De La Salle), Collette Hogan (De La Salle), Rebecca McGlone (Lismore), Jade Morrissey (Cappoquin), Niamh Murphy (De La Salle), Laura Murray (Cappoquin), Shannon Murray (Tallow), Katie Norris (St Mollerans), Mary O'Brien (Lismore), Darina Shanley (Brickey Rangers), Kaiesha Tobin (Dungarvan), Emer Walshe (Gaultier).

Camogie Development Academy
Waterford Camogie Academy held its first coaching session of the year on the WIT Carriganore Campus on Thursday 9th May 2013. Waterford Camogie appreciates the sponsorship of this year's Academy by Orma Sport(www.urmasports.ie).
At the start of the session, the players were addressed by Mary O'Connor, Acting Director General of the Camogie Association as she outlined her own development as a juvenile and adult Camogie and Footballer with Cork over many years. In a practical and down to earth manner she detailed the commitment required and enjoyment gained from a sporting life. The Committee and girls greatly appreciate her attendance and insights.
This year the Academy will cater for the Under 14, Under 15 and Under 16 Waterford County Development Squads. A series of educational and practical skill sessions are planned over the Summer in order to build on the work already undertaken in its inaugural year in 2012. Special thanks for all the preparatory, development and organisational work undertaken to Aoife Lane, Sheila O'Donoghue and Conor Phelan of WIT and Joe Carton of Munster GAA.
The Academy has already proven to be of huge benefit to Waterford Camogie as evidenced by the performance of last year's Under 14 Development Squad in their various blitzes and the current U16's win in the Munster B Final recently.
