Junior Camogie Championship
Drumree opened their Junior championship campaign with a win over Trim in Drumree on Wednesday evening (08/05/13) with a final score of 2-6 to 2-3.
Drumree started the first half by playing into a stiff breeze. Trim made the early running with 3 points 1 free and 2 from play before Drumree settled into the match and spearheaded by strong running from Niamh Gallogly and Gemma Flanagan. Drumree then scored 2 points from Gallogly and 1 from Sarah Jayne Brady, before corner forward Emma Doyle poached a goal. Trim hit back just before the 20 minute mark. Trim were lucky not to fall further behind with a goal line clearance and just on half time hit back with a sucker goal.
In the 2nd half playing with the breeze Drumree struggled to get going and fell behind to a 2nd Trim goal, but points from Louise Griffin and Alannah Chalkey then followed by a deflected goal following a long delivery from Chalkey seemed to knock Trim who despite their best efforts they could not pierce a determined Drumree rearguard and when Griffin pointe d a free to put 3 between the teams Drumree were not to be denied.a late shot from Trish Monks fizzed just wide of the trim goals and Griffin shot a free wide from a tight angle, but at this stage Drumree were good value for their 3 point win in an extremely physical and exciting match.
