"'We badly needed this", said captain and Irish Daily Star Player of the Match Sarah Ann Fitzgerald. "We're always the hard luck story but not today. Hopefully it'll be huge for camogie in Laois and provide a springboard for the future."

Fitzgerald, who has won four Ashbourne Cups with WIT, gave an inspirational performance to defeat Dublin by 0-9 to 0-7: "'Any win over Dublin is nice when you're from Laois."

Laois manager Mattie Collier was also delighted with the victory: "What's rare is wonderful and Laois don't win too much in any grade, so it's terrific to win this title. We've only four adult clubs so it's a very small pick. There's a lot of people doing work at under-age level and hopefully young girls will now see that Laois can win things and it will encourage them to have the dream to play for their county."
