Tipperary GAA mourns Emily Wilson
May 06, 2013
Tipperary GAA has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of a young camogie star on Saturday morning.
Ten-year-old Emily Wilson collapsed while she warmed up for a training session with her Gortnahoe team-mate,s and was later pronounced dead at the South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel. The tragedy has shocked the greater GAA community with a minute's silence being observed in Emily's memory before yesterday's Allianz Hurling League final between Tipperary and Kilkenny at Nowlan Park.
Speaking to the Irish Daily Star, local priest Fr. John O'Rourke said Gortnahoe - which is the home of Irish soccer star Shane Long - has been devastated by the fourth class pupil's passing.
"Her death is a huge, shattering shock for her parents and indeed every single person in the parish.
"Emily's dad Nick and mum Catriona run the local Church Children's Choir and Emily would have been very much a part of that. She also served as an altar girl.
"She was a lovely, lovely little girl… very bright and someone who fitted in very well and with all here class-mates and friends."
