Westmeath Camogie U16's narrowly loss out in Leinster Final

Westmeath 3-10 Laois 5-07

On Sunday last our county U16 team travelled to Durrow, Tullamore to take on Laois in the Leinster Final. Playing conditions were perfect on the day with a slight breeze. Westmeath's Sabina McLoughlin opened the match with a well taken point. This was swiftly followed by a goal from Westmeath's Olivia Kelleghan before Laois opened their account with a point. Points were then exchanged by both sides before Laois found the net to leave the half time score 1-06 to 1-05 in favour of Westmeath. Laois started the second half the better of two sides with a goal. Laois added a further goal and a point before Westmeath's Katie Heffernan added a goal and 2 points and Fiona Glynn a point to leave the sides equal with 10 minutes to go. All was to play for with both teaming showing great skill and determination. Westmeath suffered a blow when Laois got two quick goals. However Westmeath did not give up. A well taken goal by Emma Broughan and point by Fiona Glynn treated the crowd to an exciting finish to the game. Well done to the team.
