Despite being just four months into his Aussie Rules adventure, Meath's Conor Nash has made a big impression on a Hawthorn team-mate.

The Simonstown youngster is adapting well to the oval ball code according to three-time AFL Premiership Hawks winner Liam Shiels.

Nash departed for Australia in late November after playing a prominent role in Simonstown's maiden Meath SFC success and Shiels says he didn't look out of place in the JLT Community Series defeat at the hands of Port Adelaide last Sunday.

"Conor Nash didn't get on until late in the last quarter against Port Adelaide but what he did was pleasing," Shiels said in a radio interview.

"There are some pretty exciting youngsters coming through."
