Down ease to under 21 hurling win
August 07, 2008
Down enjoyed a double-scores victory over neighbours Armagh in last night's Ulster under 21 hurling championship clash at Ballycran.
The sides were level on 0-2 each after 10 minutes with Sean Nicholson and Benny Ennis on target for the home side, and Paudie McBride and Paul Gaffney replying for Armagh. But Down then took control with seven unanswered points per Ennis (three), James Coyle (three) and Liam Morgan. John Corvan pointed two Armagh frees to leave the score 0-9 to 0-4 at half-time.
The Ardsmen extended their advantage with an Ennis brace and two further points from Coyle and Nicholson within six minutes of the resumption. Corvan gave Armagh hope when he fired home the only goal after 10 minutes, but Down continued to dominate and they wrapped up the win with five more unanswered points.
