Mass brawl sees Wicklow hurling match abandoned

July 13, 2018

The Wicklow IHC clash between St Patrick's and Glenealy was marred by a serious incident.

The meeting of St Patrick's and Glenealy in the Wicklow Intermediate Hurling Championship had to be abandoned due to a major incident last weekend.

Prior to this pre-mature conclusion, referee Ciaran O'Shea saw fit to dismiss a player from each side.

The game reached boiling point in the 49th minute with a mass brawl, involving players and management from both camps and resulting in the St Patrick's coach needing an ambulance to be called. At this point, St Patrick's had a narrow 1-8 to 1-7 lead.

This gave the referee no option other than to call the game off after a lengthy discussion with his officials.
