Westmeath chairman Sean Sheridan has revealed that only one candidate has agreed to meet them so far as they look to appoint a new senior football manager.

This week, former Galway manager John O'Mahony ruled himself out of replacing Tom Cribbin as he is set to remain on in his advisory role with Leitrim for another year.

A few names have been linked to the position including Anthony Cunningham, Luke Dempsey, Tommy Carr, Pete McGrath, John Evans and John Keane, but Sheridan revealed to the Westmeath Topic that just one person has agreed to an interview.

"We have contacted a lot of people since we met last week and to date only one has agreed to meet us, but it is still early days," stated the Westmeath chairman.

"We should know more in the next week, but there is a major challenge ahead as a number of counties are now looking for managers."

Another name added to the list of potential candidates is former Galway All-Ireland winner John Divilly who has coached UCD to Sigerson Cup glory in recent years.
