Former Laois hurling captain Brian Campion has announced his inter-county retirement.

Manager Seamus 'Cheddar' Plunkett paid tribute to the long-serving Rathdowney-Errill defender after the O'Moore County defeated UCD in their Walsh Cup opener at Abbeyleix yesterday. Campion was a stalwart of the Laois rearguard since 2005.

He is the holder of three Laois SHC medals and is also a former Laois Senior Hurler of the Year.
