Brendan Maher will captain the Tipperary senior hurlers once again this year.

It has also been confirmed that Padraic Maher will remain as vice-captain. Last year's beaten All-Ireland finalists will get their 2015 campaign underway tomorrow night when they meet Mary I in the preliminary round of the Waterford Crystal Cup in Thurles' Dr Morris Park.

Tipp have suffered a double blow ahead of the start of the Allianz League next month with the news that defenders James Barry and Michael Cahill will miss the entire campaign due to hip injuries.

Full back Barry has already undergone surgery to remedy the problem, while Cahill will have a similar operation in the coming weeks.

Manager Eamon O'Shea has recalled John Meagher (Loughmore-Castleiney), Michael Breen (Ballina) and Bill Maher (Kilsheelan-Kilcash) from last year's extended panel. The new faces in his squad are David Butler (Drom & Inch), Liam Treacy and John McGrath (both Loughmore-Castleiney), Sean Maher (Clonoulty-Rossmore) and Joe O'Dwyer (Killenaule).
