County Under-21s
They played Maynooth Sigerson Cup team last night and lost by 6 or 7 points. A poor performance I was told. The game has been put back to the 29th has it not?

Good to see amalgamation Zimmerman .. Good for competition at senior level , which has been a two horse race for years , if they click and have collective training ( big if ) no reason they can't do a St Marys on it..

County Under-21s
Any news on how 21s are shaping up .. Carlow game just 2 weeks away I think?
Anymore challenge matches? ... Harry obviously not using 21s Sunday v Kilkenny to keep them injury free .. McLoughlin , McGraynor , Tommy Kelly..

First Round of NFL v Kilkenny
Pistelero
Kelly played well yesterday and got a big score , so although it was only Kilkenny - you have to recognise he was still top scorer so would deserve a starting position v Waterford. Gaffney has done little wrong in O'B Cup and yesterday and adds size and presence at fullback - again probably should get the nod v Waterford and continue to improve from there.
Chester & Darren Hayden automatic starters for me - Chester at Corner back ( probably for Dean Healy ) and Hayden possibly having to go into half forward line with Joey Kelly pushing into No 13 alongside Furlong & Glynn
My team assuming all free of injury for Waterford would be :
Flynn , Hyland , Gaffney, Chester, Murphy, Finn , Byrne , Stafford , Merriman , Hayden , O'Malley , Mernagh , Kelly , Furlong , Glynn
Teletext is slow even for the Div 1 & 2 games in my view , some other websites out there that are better .. Wicklowgaaonline have a good twitter service for most games as well giving regular updates , RTE Online under Sports section normally have quicker updates than teletext strangely .. But , crowd pullers are Div 1 & 2 , so thats where Media focuses ... only the battle hardened like ourselves spend time on gory detail of Wicklow v Kilkenny !

First Round of NFL v Kilkenny
Square,Gaffney and Kelly could be starters next game although i wouldn't judge anyone to much on yesterday,it will be interesting to see where Chester and Hayden will fit in next day out.I have another little rant,i thought we were playing in the National Football League albeit Div 4 so why is it when Teletext are doing the previews they only include Divs 1and 2.It is something that has irked me for some time, also it usually has the results of of Div 1 and 2 up immediately after the games are over while it could be 7 or 8 O,Clock if atall that the other 2 Divs are listed, maybe i am being paranoid but it appears to me as if the lower Divs don't really count.

First Round of NFL v Kilkenny
Yea they were all second yellow cards for the waterford boys,Waterford by all accounts are struggling at the moment,They are missing the O Gorman twins in the back line which is a huge loss.Hurling has taken a lot of their players this year.If we are realisitic about promotion we must win that.

Agree Pistelero re: London v Fermanagh - if its end of year cahnces are London will have nothing to play for and Fermanagh will be at full tilt . Still think Fermanagh would have won , but point taken on London catching the, early as a possibility ..
Waterford lads sent off yesterday all second yellows - so no advantage to us - one of them was Gary Hurney , had he had a straight red , he would have been a huge loss , alas though - he will be available.
Waterford is a game we have to and will win I believe - would see us winning that in Aughrin by 4-5 points or so .

First Round of NFL v Kilkenny
We will never know now Square.the re fixture will probably be near end of season, and Fermanagh will be stronger with games under their belt and London will probably be out of contention with nothing to play for,I just thought they had a great chance of catching them cold in first game in League,as this is a better London side than they have had for some time.Do you know if the 3 Waterford players sent off got straight reds because if they did it could be to our advantage as i believe we are fixed to play them on March 3rd which is a Saturday, and by my reckoning with February being a short month with only 29 days any one getting 4 weeks or 28 days their time would not be up until midnight on the 3rd which would leave them unavailable for selection.

Any thoughts on the coming together of Eire Og, Greystones and Kilcoole in senior hurling this season? Has to be good for the game with more competition for Glenealy. Good to see St. Pats there as well.

Your predictions were spot on Pistelero ... Still think you would have been off on that Fermanagh prediction.
There were probably more goals to be had , Kelly hit upright after 15 mins , he had a good chance in 2nd but opted for point. As Sponger said , Kilkenny defended deep , had a wall across their half back line of 6 defenders , that stopped Wicklow half backs getting too far forward mostly. We held our shape well though and Full forward line stayed well in and profited and moved well , Seanie is fitter at this time of year than I've seen him before. Joey Kelly was excellent , opposition wasn't top class for sure , but he got some lovely scores and definitely gives us something on the 45 , assuming he remains consistent , his accurate kick passing to feed full forward line impressive also.
Austin O'Malley fit and hungry looking and got some smart scores and showed really well at 11 - that Div 1 class from Mayo days still there .
Staff really really needs to take a deep breath and stop getting involved and looking for trouble .. If he gets sent off v Fermanagh or Limerick or misses those games , we are goosed totally ..
Rossiter , Mann , Gaffney , Kelly , Burke all getting their chance under Harry and all putting in good strong shifts and deserve squad places for rest of league , with Kelly and Gaffney nailing down starting places probably.

Your damned if you do and your damned if you don't.I thought we would have scored more than 3 goals against Kilkenny, and i find it strange that none of our midfield or half backs got a score against a team as poor as Kilkenny who wouldnt be as good as any of the top 6 teams in Wicklow. My predictions did go as i thought even if i was a bit out on the final scores, its a pity the London/Fermanagh game was called off.

That is true square....
Alan Byrne is a very accomplished player. Wicklow are lucky to have him.
It is a cliche but sometimes playing against a team like this can have its own challenges - they played the second half in particular with 13 men in defence and one up front. We also need to watch our discipline with bigger games coming up - I am talking about the melee at the end.
Fair play to all those who travelled down , Freshford has a compact pitch and I thought the playing surface would be worse.

First Round of NFL v Kilkenny
Wicklow 3-25 Kilkenny 1-1
Team and scorers ( roughly)
Flynn, Hyland,Gaffney,Healy, Murphy , Finn , Byrne , Burke , Stafford , Mernagh (0-1) , O'Malley (0-3), Joey Kelly ( 1-7 ) , D O Sullivan ( 0-2 ) , Furlong (1-5) , Glynn (1-2) .
Subs on : Hannon ( 0-3 ) , Rossiter , Cronin ( 0-1 ) , Merriman (0-1), Mark Doyle , Mann ( blood sub )
Subs came on for Healy , Burke , O'Malley , o'Sullivan , Mernagh , Merriman ( blood)
It was 3-11 to 1-1 at half time , Wicklow with 14 un answered points in the second , in fact Wicklow got last 18 scores un answered.
Wicklow in 2nd gear mostly and a game that getting a big score meant all - so objective achieved with a + 30 point score difference . Kicked around 13 wides in total and concentration was lacking at times , Flynn in goal gave a way a bad goal. Joey Kelly had a super game , ran his heart out and score 1-7 or so from play .. Backs had little enough to worry about , Gaffney was solid as was Finn . Stafford was lucky to stay on and not get a straight red at the end when no need at all to get worked up. Furlong , Glynn , o'Malley , O'Sullvan all showed up well . Mark Doyle has a lot of work to do on fitness if he is to be involved , Cronin got a nice score after coming on.
Nice to see a 100 odd hardy Wicklow souls cheering on the team on a cold damp Sunday.
Rossiter did well when coming on , Merriman worked hard.
A win is a win .. And hard to take too much from today.
To be fair to Kilkenny , for what they lacked in quality , they made up for in spirit and tried hard for the 70 mins.
