Fox, Edmond

The Late Edmond Fox It was with sincere sadness the people of Coolagarranroe and Skeheenarinky received the news on February 22nd that Edmond Fox one of its most loved sons had passed to his eternal reward. A great neighbour and friend, he had been ill for some time, but his death when it came was a severe blow to his family and all who knew him. Edmond was born and reared in Coolagarranroe, he attended the local Skeheenarinky school and he dedicated his life to family where he looked after the family farm. A big man with a kind disposition, one of nature's gentlemen, no one could have wished for a friendlier, good humoured or better neighbour. He was always willing and ready to give a hand whenever the occasion arose regardless of the time, Edmond could be totally depended upon. He was a devoted family man working on the slopes of the Galtees. He gave unselfishly of his time and energy to many organisations in the community. He played with Skeheenarinky Hurling Club in the 1960's and after his playing career ended, he went on to be Chairman of this club 2004-2008 and was a great fundraiser. At the time of his death, he was an active committee member with the club. It gave him great pride to see his sons John and Ger carry on the hurling tradition. Edmond held the position of chairman of the South Tipperary Hill Sheep Breeder's Association, at the time of his death. This association has carried out great work for all its members. He was known far and wide in the hill sheep breeding trade and judging at sheep shows. Edmond was an active member of the local Fianna Fail Cumann and held the position of chairman of this Cumann for the last number of years. He was a keen canvasser during county council and national elections and supported many successful representatives. The respect and esteem in which the deceased was held was evident in the overflowing attendance at the Rosary in his home, the removal from the funeral home to the Church of the Assumption in Ballyporeen and the funeral Mass and burial in St Mary's Cemetery on the Sunday. He has left those who were very privileged to have known him with great memories. His loss is felt greatest by his family and friends. 'there is a spot that he adored, it lies along the Galtee slopes, where he worked and toiled with his cattle and sheep, but now he's at home in God's heavenly keep' To his wife Bridget, sons John and Ger, daughters Helen, Angela and Martina, brothers James and John Joe, sister Josie, grandchildren and extended family and friends, sincere sympathy is extended.
