Brennan, Imelda

March 26, 2008
Club members and supporters were saddened to hear of the death of Mrs Imelda Brennan, Churchlands. She was 81. Originally from Carnew, Mrs Brennan, who died at Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home, Raheny, Dublin on February 16, took great interest in all Tinahely events. She was a skilled whist player and she will be greatly missed by friends and card players at Tinahely whist drives. She enjoyed football for many years and she was delighted when her son Ray was part of the Tinahely team which won the Under 21 Wicklow County Championship in 1980. She welcomed the young players over the years especially from Churchlands, the Railway, Lugduff and the School Road to her house on many happy occasions. Ray was also a member of the Junior B team which won the Wicklow Co Championship in 1981. That team celebrated its 25th anniversary last year in Lawless's Hotel when Mick O'Dwyer made commemorative presentations to the players. Her grandsons Pierce and Austin Brennan were members of the Tinahely senior side which won the Keating Trophy in 2007 and medals were presented to them by Brian Cody, Kilkenny hurling manager, at the Arklow Bay Hotel recently. Imelda's daughter Aileen was married to the late Seamus Morris who won a Wicklow Co Senior Championship medal with Tinahely in 1984 and an All-Ireland Club Championship medal with Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club in 1995. Their son Jordan is a talented footballer at Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club. Imelda's husband Kevin died in September 2002. Clergy present at Requiem Mass or removal were Fr Gahan, Fr Hayden, Fr Curtis, Fr Gerry O'Brien, Fr Brennan, Fr Morris, Fr Casey. She is survived by her sons Brendan, Pat and Raymond, daughters Mary and Aileen, and her sisters Trish and Sr Raphael.
